Periodontal disease can have devastating effects on the liver, heart, and kidneys. And while brushing teeth remains the number one way to prevent gum disease, it isn’t always easy to do or effective enough on its own. Enter: dental chews. Dental chews are a fun treat meant to clean teeth and freshen breath – and my dogs are obsessed with one in particular that looks like a green toothbrush (you probably know the one I’m talking about!).

They love it so much that these dental chews are often used to lure them away from a room they shouldn’t be in, or an item they shouldn’t be touching. It makes them happy and causes them to behave, but does it actually work for its intended purposes? We asked the experts.

We didn’t have any problems with either of our dogs (60 & 75lb pit mixes) getting even remotely sick from these treats.

Obviously the lower price is great – we go through at least 2 a day in our house so that adds up fast. But after a box of these we are going back to Greenies. The dogs just didn’t go nuts for these like they do Greenies, which we use as a high value treat for training & obedience purposes. So we need them to be really excited about them.

The only differences I could notice between these & Greenies was 1. the smell – these don’t smell as “good” as Greenies (at least to me) and I definitely didn’t like how they left my hands smelling and 2. they’re a little less rubbery/chewy in consistency and did seem to get a little harder over time despite being kept in a sealed jar.

I give my dog one of these after each meal – does a great job of keeping his teeth clean, his gums healthy,
and he never has bad breath! Gave 5 stars for taste (although I don’t intend to taste one 🤣), but my dog loves them! Only gave 3 stars for scent but that is just my personal opinion.
All in all, I feel they are a great pet product & serve their purpose well.

I like the idea that these treats are actually doing my dogs some good, healthwise. They seem to really love the flavor. They are pretty large, but are easy to break in half so I give them each a half piece and they’re very happy.

I fed these treats to my two standard poodles for over a year. The last order I got seems to be different. To start with, the boxes had all kind of stickers on them, as if they had been returned or something. I fed them the new treats for a couple of days then one of my girls started throwing them up and within a couple of days was throwing up her food. She started throwing up often and had diarrhea with blood. I took her to the vet and after a $500 vet bill it was determined she had a bad intestinal infection. They are house dogs and never allowed to run off leash so I know she didn’t ingest anything weird. I quit giving them the treats for over a month. Today I started back giving them to the girls. Within a few minutes she threw it up. It could be a coincidence but after reading all these reviews and even though the other girl seems unaffected, I will discontinue them and advise others to think about it.
